Last week, as many of you already know, was the week of my family trip to Vermont. A time for relaxation and holiday family time - yay. To be quite honest my family don't normally pursue in family trips especially ones that involve an actual holiday. You see if the trip didn’t involve loading bike boxes and sports equipment onto little planes and racing in near freezing waters overseas than we were just not interested - much to the dismay of my sis! Anyways to be able to actually RELAX was ever so pleasant! This was also the first trip where the three kids had been grown up! No longer did we want to just go shopping but now we wanted to flex in coffee shops and snowboard - more on this later. If you haven’t been to Vermont than you need to experience the people there and if you have then you know exactly what I'm talkin about! Vermonters are possibly the most chilled and liberal people I've ever come across. Believe me, I've been down to Jamaica, live in Bermuda, flexed in Costa Rica and Mexico but never have I come up to a people so relaxed. Anything goes in Vermont. To be honest anywhere where big bushy beards and flannel shirts are fashionable has to be chilled! Everyone wants to save the Earth and trees are best friends! And talk about liberal! Man anything goes as long as you aren't hurting someone or another living thing (especially trees!). Me and my bro were told that there is actually a town in Vermont where it is legal to be naked in the town centre! It all started cos a guy streaked through town and instead of yelling abuse at the guy they embraced his spirit and now on one day a year the whole town chucks their flannell shirts and wellington boots to the side and get in the ‘nud’. To all my Swansea friends - this has to be Dickie's heaven!
Vermont inspired me. I'm now showin off my newly grown ginger beard. All of a sudden while listening to Xavier Rudd's new album (to all that don't know he is the man -an Aussie tree loving surfer who basically plays the didgeridoo, the guitar and sings about, well, trees, surf and injustice.) I decided to embrace the Vermonter inside of me and dawn some fluff on my chin and be one with the trees. My momma hates it. Anyways my bro and I went for a couple of wicked sessions snowboarding at Killington. Perfect pow pow for each day and man did we rip it up! He was floatin down the hill after spending the previous week boarding at Whistler so I was lagging behind but man was it sick! The pic included at the top is me and my bro at the top of Killington on the sickest day - man it was bud. The one below is Jonny lookin sharp. To all my island people I must introduce this next topic with caution - CROSS COUNTRY SKIING! You see I've always wanted to try this sport since watching it back home on tv. These Eastern Europeans and Scandinavians make it look so effortless but let me tell you it is anything but that! Let me just paint you the picture - large snowfall, vast open land, an untrained island boy and two skinny skiies. Not pleasant but it was conquered!
Embrace your inner Vermonter.
